NEWPORT, R.I. -- A pair of first-half goals carried Salve Regina University to a 2-1 NEWMAC win over the visiting Mount Holyoke College soccer team Saturday.

Salve Regina (2-7-2, 1-0-2 NEWMAC) remained unbeaten in NEWMAC competition this season and left Mount Holyoke (3-2-3, 0-2-1 NEWMAC) looking for its first conference win.

Mount Holyoke trailed 2-0 at the half despite a 10-6 advantage in shots. Meghan Moniz put the Seahawks on the scoreboard in the 13th minute with a nifty move in the penalty box to push the ball into open space before lunging and flicking the ball past Mount Holyoke junior goalie Clarissa Govea (Pico Rivera, Calif.) and inside the far post.

Hannah Daniewicz made it 2-0 for Salve Regina in the 34th minute, burying a wide-open shot after the ball bounced from teammates Marissa Perarchi and Lily Chhun from the right side of the goal face toward the left post.

Mount Holyoke cut the deficit in half in the 71st minute, when junior Anna Kennedy (Glendale, Wis.) took a pass near midfield from senior Hannah Keochakian (Amherst, Mass.) dribbled 20 yards forward and shot from long distance over Seahawk goalie Rachael Stortz's reach and under the crossbar, for Kennedy's second goal of the season.

Govea made two saves in the first half and sophomore Evie Krieg (Frisco, Texas) made two saves in the second half for the Lyons. Stortz made two saves for Salve Regina.

Mount Holyoke will host Wellesley on Wednesday at 6pm.
