WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke basketball team continued to display improvement in spite of a lopsided score, as the Lyons fell 91-40 at Clark University Saturday afternoon.
Mount Holyoke fell to 4-13 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC, while Clark (9-8, 1-2 NEWMAC) grabbed its first conference win.
The Lyons committed their second-most turnovers of the season (40), which turned into a 50-12 advantage in points off turnovers for Clark. The Cougars were efficient offensively, shooting .455 from the field, .429 from three and .815 at the foul line while scoring 20+ points in each quarter.
Although the score was not close, it did represent a significant improvement upon last season's 73-point differential for Mount Holyoke, and the Lyons scored their most points in their past four outings.
Sophomore Emma Zoubok (Somers, N.Y.) scored a season-high 13 points, tying for the game lead with three Cougars. Zoubok shot 3-of-9 from three-point territory while playing a season-high 30 minutes off the bench for Mount Holyoke.
Led by sophomore Sofia Francisco (Boston, Mass.), the Lyons were competitive on the boards (47-38 disadvantage), with Francisco grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds to go with three blocked shots.
Junior Alex Twomey (Nutley, N.J.) had 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, in addition to 11 points, five steals and a block.
Alaina Schatzabel, Kailey Rios and Catherine Antwi scored 13 apiece for Clark, while Ashley Leighton had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Mount Holyoke returns to Worcester on Wednesday for a NEWMAC game at WPI tipping off at 7:30pm.
