McMichael named NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke claimed a NEWMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor for the second week in a row on Monday, as first-year point guard Ania McMichael was named Offensive Player of the Week by the conference.

McMichael (Glastonbury, Conn.) was recognized for her performance in Thursday's 66-59 victory over Colby-Sawyer, the Lyons' only game last week. McMichael scored 12 points, shooting 4-6 from the field, 2-4 from three-point range, and 2-2 from the free throw line. In addition, McMichael totaled a season-high 11 assists, one of the top-10 single-game totals in team history, to go with four steals and two rebounds.

Mount Holyoke's win over Colby-Sawyer was the Lyons' fourth straight, marking the team's first four-game win streak since 2012. In just three collegiate games thus far, all Mount Holyoke wins, McMichael leads the Lyons in scoring (12.3 ppg), assists (7.3 apg) and steals (4.0 spg).

The Lyons play at Worcester State tonight at 7pm before returning home for their NEWMAC opener on Saturday at 1pm against Salve Regina.
