SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Babson College claimed its sixth consecutive win as the visiting Beavers topped the Mount Holyoke College basketball team 82-28 Wednesday night in Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.
Babson (15-9, 7-3 NEWMAC) had 11 players score as the Beavers shot 34-70 (.486) from the field, including 6-23 (.261) from three-point territory, and 8-9 (.889) on free throws. Mount Holyoke was held to .240 shooting from the field and 1-14 (.071) from three. Babson outrebounded Mount Holyoke 49-24 and had a 23-12 advantage in turnovers.
Katelyn Mollica led three Beavers in double figures with 17 points, including 10 of the visitors' first 12 points in the game. Abby Miller scored 14 points and Emily Flynn added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Sophomore guard Hannah Goen (New London, N.H.) led Mount Holyoke with nine points and three assists.
Babson ran out to a 21-2 lead with 2:31 left in the opening period and assumed a 27-4 advantage going into the second quarter, with Mollica supplying 12 points and Flynn contributing six points and six rebounds.
The Beavers led 42-8 at the half and 66-15 after three quarters. The kept their 50-point lead throughout the fourth quarter, even as the Lyons scored 13 of their points on 6-10 shooting in the final period.
Mount Holyoke (4-20, 0-10 NEWMAC) travels to Coast Guard for its final game of the season Saturday at 1pm.
Babson rose to 45-8 all-time against Mount Holyoke, with the Lyons' last victory against the Beaver occuring in 2007.
