Doyle, Mallare lead track and field with wins at MHC-Smith-Wellesley Tri-Meet

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Senior Emma Doyle and sophomore Aria Mallare both scored event wins and recorded personal-best marks, leading the Mount Holyoke College track and field team to a strong third-place performance at the first annual outdoor Mount Holyoke-Smith-Wellesley Tri-Meet Saturday at Wellesley College.

Using a 5-3-2-1 scoring system, Wellesley scored 109 points to take first place in the team scoring, followed by Smith second (46) and Mount Holyoke third (40).

Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) took first place in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.52 meters, or 4'11.75". Mallare moved past Molly Sagar (2013) and into a tie with Bree Lignon-Hollinger (2011) for fifth place in program history in the event.

Mallare also finished fourth out of nine competitors in the long jump, at a career-best 4.84 meters (15'10.5"), and remains ninth in team history in the event. Finally, Mallare also scored a point in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, with times of 13.55 seconds and 29.17 seconds.

Mount Holyoke also fared well in the throwing events, led by Doyle's (West Lebanon, N.H.) first-place finishes in the discus (a career-best 116'6", or 35.51 meters) and shot put (36'10.25"/11.23 meters). Doyle also placed second in the hammer throw (97'0"/29.56 meters).

More scoring and top-four performances for Mount Holyoke included:

  • Senior Devan Ravino (West Kingston, R.I.) placed third out of seven runners in the 800 meters, in a career-best time of 2:24.98 -- replacing Lauren Selkin (2022) by 0.01 second at 10th place on the team's all-time top-10 list in the event.
  • Sophomore Erin Siegel (San Diego, Calif.) placed third in both the shot put (29'2"/8.89 meters) and the discus (91'9"/27.96 meters), and also took fourth place in the hammer (92'7"/28.21 meters)
  • Sophomore Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) placed fourth out of 17 runners in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:58.50.
  • Junior Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) placed third in the 5,000 meters at 19:29.04.
  • Sophomore Lize Brown (New London, Conn.) took third place out of 12 competitors in the javelin throw (83'1"/25.32 meters).
  • Senior Sara Robillard (Delran, N.J.) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:28.06).
  • First-year Kristina Busby (Freeville, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (19.90).
  • Senior captain Lucy Sternberg (Stonington, Conn.) scored two points in the triple jump with a top effort of 9.29 meters (30'5.75").
  • First-year Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) placed fourth in the shot put, at 7.61 meters (24'11.75").
  • Junior Evelyn Bushway (Schenectady, N.Y.) placed fourth out of 12 competitors in the javelin throw, with a top mark of 78'8", or 23.98 meters.

The Lyons will compete at the NEWMAC Championships next weekend, April 29-30 at MIT. Action begins Friday at 1pm.
