Track and field places 16th at Tufts Snowflake Classic

SOMERVILLE, Mass. -- Senior captain Emma Doyle and sophomore Tessa Lancaster both had fourth-place finishes to lead the Mount Holyoke track and field team at the 20-team Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday. The Lyons placed 16th overall with 11 team points, awarded for top-eight event performances.

Doyle (West Lebanon, N.H.) placed fourth out of 22 competitors in the discus throw with a top mark of 33.47 meters (109'10"), Doyle's second straight week with a personal-record in the event. Doyle also placed eighth out of 31 athletes in the hammer throw, topping out at 30.69 meters (100'8").

Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) finished fourth among 58 competitors in the 1,500-meter run, with a time of 4:56.86, just 0.45 seconds off of her career best.

Other top-20 event performances by Mount Holyoke included:

  • Sophomore Kara Setal (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished 12th in the hammer throw with a top mark of 28.90 meters (94'10").
  • Sophomore Lize Brown (New London, Conn.) took 13th place out of 45 throwers in the shot put, with a top mark of 8.68 meters, or 28'5.75". Brown also placed 15th in the javelin throw at 22.19 meters (72'10").
  • Junior captain Bridget Hall (Arlington, Mass.) placed 18th out of 37 runners in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in a personal-best time of 19:42.69.
  • Sophomore Abby Elliott (Carmel, Ind.) placed 19th in the discus throw in 25.33 meters (83'1").

The Lyons take the short trip to Amherst College next Saturday for the Amherst Spring Fling, starting at 11am.
