The five newest members of the Mount Holyoke College Athletics Hall of Fame will finally be formally honored with a reception on Thursday, May 25 in Willits Hallowell Center, beginning at 5:30pm.

The five honorees (descriptions below) were voted as the Hall of Fame's fourth class in 2020, but logistics have intervened in properly properly honoring the five women.

  • Penny Schneider Calf '68 (Advocate). Penny Calf became a high school field hockey coaching legend at Walpole (Mass.) High School, where she won an astounding 274 games and seven Division 1 state titles in 13 years. Calf was inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2018.
  • Langhan Dee '04 (Athlete). One of the most decorated student-athletes in Mount Holyoke's history, Langhan Dee was a member of the indoor track, outdoor track and soccer teams during her time as a Lyon. Over the course of her collegiate career, Dee competed in the NCAA Division III Championships in nine events, earned All-America honors twice, and set program records in 13 events.
  • Catherine Herrold '00 (Athlete). She placed 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle race at the NCAA Division III Championships in 1997, which earned her Honorable Mention All-America honors.
  • Elizabeth Kennan '60 (Advocate). The 16th president of Mount Holyoke College, serving from 1978 to 1995, Kennan profoundly influenced athletics at the college, overseeing the construction of the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex in 1985 and the Equestrian Center in 1987, among many other initiatives during her tenure.
  • Mary Mazzio '83 (Athlete). Mary Mazzio competed on Team USA in double sculls at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, placing 11th. The year before, she rowed in quad sculls at the 1991 World Championships. Following a career in law, Mazzio became an award-winning documentary filmmaker. She first became known for "A Hero for Daisy" in 1999, which was a film about Olympic rower Chris Ernst, who led her Yale rowing team in a protest to obtain better athletic opportunities for women.

A reception will take place beginning at 5:30pm in the Willits living room, followed by dinner in the Morrison Room at 6:45pm. The formal program will begin at 8pm.
