Swimming and Diving Closes Regular Season at Smith

Northampton, Mass. - February 8, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team closed out the 2019-20 regular season on Saturday afternoon as the Lyons fell to host Smith College 184-116 at Dalton Pool.

Starting off with the 200 medley relay, the Lyons' team of Anais Magner (Ohiwa, New Zealand), Erin Schrama (Taunton, Mass.), Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya) and Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton, Mass.) took second with a combined time of 1:58.31. Next, in the 1000 freestyle, Sarah Ratzlaff (Salt Lake City, Utah) was the Lyons' top finisher as the senior took fourth with a time of 12:22.72. 

Schrama won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.29 before Magner took home the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.97. First-year Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas) was second in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:17.34, while in the 200 butterfly, Naomi Brown (Bloomington, Ind.) was Mount Holyoke College's top finisher, taking second with a time of 2:30.46.

Richmond was second in the 50 freestyle, touching in 26.26 seconds, as Riley Hicks (Bow, N.H.) was fourth with a time of 28.77 seconds. Next, in the 100 freestyle, Mukulu took second overall with a time of 57.67 seconds, followed by Richmond's fourth-place time of 1:00.85. 

Magner earned her second win of the afternoon in the 200 backstroke, as she touched in a winning-time of 2:22.01, while in the 200 breaststroke, Adrienne Corr (San Diego, Calif.) was third with a time of 2:49.24, just ahead of Schrama, who clocked in at 2:51.63.

Brown took second in the 500 freestyle, producing a time of 5:41.75, before Mukulu was second in the 100 butterfly, touching in 1:06.01. 

Wrapping up the swimming portion of the meet, Leese took second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:27.43, before the team of Schrama, Brown, Mukulu and Richmond took second in the 400 freestyle relay, clocking in at 3:55.45. 

As for diving, on the one-meter board, Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) won with a nationally-qualifying mark of 268.64, as the senior was followed by Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.), who produced a score of 249.51, earning a spot at the NCAA Division III Diving Regionals on February 28 and 29. Nemivant also won the three-meter competition with a mark of 264.40, as Katie Kolozsvari (Danville, Ind.) was next for the Lyons with a score of 237.30. 

Mount Holyoke College will now prepare for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held at MIT beginning on Thursday, February 20.
