Mukulu Collects NEWMAC Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week Honors

South Hadley, Mass. - November 18, 2019 - Junior Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya) of the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving program was honored for her impressive peformance this past weekend, earning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week honors, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Mukulu was named NEWMAC Co-Women's Swimmer of the Week with Babson College's Abigail Voce after leading the Lyons to a 160-133 win over Westfield State on Saturday.

Mukulu, a junior Sport and Business Studies major at Mount Holyoke College, picked up a pair of individual titles and helped a relay team to victory in Mount Holyoke College's dual-meet victory over the Owls on Saturday. Mukulu started the day off anchoring the 200 medley relay team that took second overall, before winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.24 seconds. Mukulu then went on to claim victory in the 50 butterfly with a time of 28.82 seconds. Wrapping up the day, Mukulu swam the third leg of the Lyons' 200 freestlye relay and posted a split 27.04 seconds leading to Mount Holyoke College's victory in the event.

Up next, Mukulu and the Lyons will return to the MHC Natatorium on Saturday, January 23 when they square off with Wellesley at 1 p.m.
