Swimming and Diving Competes Against Clark and Wheaton in First Home Meet of 2020

South Hadley, Mass. - January 10, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team hosted its first meet of 2020 at the MHC Natatorium on Friday afternoon, as the Lyons welcomed New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes Clark University and Wheaton College to campus.

The Lyons fell to Wheaton 195-102, but defeated Clark 207-81.

In the first event of the afternoon, the team of Anais Magner (Ohiwa, New Zealand), Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas), Naomi Brown (Bloomington, Ind.) and Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya) took third overall with a combined time of 2:00.07 in the 200 medley relay, before Ashton Bliss (Yorktown, Va.) was the Lyons' top performer in the 1000 freestyle, finishing with a time of 12:12.82. Natalie Burkett (Framingham, Mass.) also competed in the 1000 freestyle and clocked in at 12:21.67.

Junior Riley Hicks (Bow, N.H.) was Mount Holyoke College's top performer in the 200 freestyle, touching in 2:13.16, while in the 50 backstroke, Magner took fifth overall with a time of 31.18 seconds. Adrienne Corr (San Diego, Calif.) was sixth in the 50 breaststroke with a mark of 36.34 seconds, before Brown posted a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.35. Leese was fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.61.

Mukulu was just edged in the 50 freestlye as the sophomore touched in 26.32 seconds, good for second, while Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton, Mass.) was fourth with a time of 26.91 seconds. In the 100 freestyle, first-year Erin Schrama (Taunton, Mass.) was third with a time of 58.52 seconds, touching just before Mukulu's time of 58.94 seconds. 

Magner was fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.67, while in the 100 breaststroke, Leese posted a time of 1:18.70, just ahead of Corr, who touched in 1:19.22. Next was the 500 freestyle, where Corr was the Lyons' top finisher with a mark of 5:50.33 before the 50 butterfly, where Schrama led with a fifth-place finish, clocking in at 29.14 seconds. 

Wrapping up the meet, Schrama completed the 100 individual medley in 1:08.00, while the team of Gigi Picard (Wilmette, Ill.), Richmond, Mukulu and Bliss combined for a time of 1:50.85 in the 200 freestyle relay to wrap up the meet.

In the diving events, senior Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) continued to shine as she won the 1-meter competition with a mark of 256.04, just ahead of Katie Kolozsvari (Danville, Ind.), who took third with a mark of 217.41 and Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.), who was fourth with a 182.85. Nemivant won the 3-meter competition as well, producing a six-dive mark of 249.45, while Kolozsvari was next with 220.87 and Murphy was fourth with 217.42.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Tuesday, January 14 for a tri-meet with Vassar and Trinity. The meet is set to begin at 3 p.m.
