  • 2011-12 Swimming and Diving Year in Review

    With longtime head coach Dave Allen leading the way, the Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team posted a dual meet record of 6-3 in 2011-12. The Lyons shattered a number of school records due in large part to the steady production of first year Maya Lazarovich, sophomore Lauren Williams and senior Lydia Bowers.

    Katie Herrold ’00 begins most days in Cairo, Egypt by swimming at the local masters club, where she enjoys continuing a sport she dedicated so much of her time as an undergraduate. This past winter, she helped the Gezira Sporting Club take home the title at the Masters National Championship, despite the fact that she’s in the Middle East to conduct research for her PhD.
  • NEWMAC Announces Winter Academic All-Conference Squads

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2011-12 Winter Academic All-Conference Teams. Seven Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of swimming and diving and basketball.

    Mount Holyoke was recently honored for its outstanding work in the classroom. The Lyons were among the 129 Division III teams from around the nation to achieve CSCAA Scholar All-American status for the 2011 fall semester.

    Mount Holyoke kicked off the 2012 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships with several outstanding performances today at MIT. After six events, the Lyons sit in ninth place with 38 points. They were paced by first year Maya Lazarovich, who finished seventh in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.86.

    Mount Holyoke closed out its home slate with a 151-104 loss to Wellesley this afternoon despite an outstanding individual effort from senior Lydia Bowers. Prior to the competition, Bowers, Claire Gregg, Morgan Herrell, Sarah Rooney, and Isa Wismann-Horther were honored for their contributions to the program over the last four years.

    Following a 40-day hiatus, Mount Holyoke returned to action with a tri-meet against Clark and Wheaton this afternoon at the Kneller Center Pool. Led by first year Maya Lazarovich, the Lyons came out on top in seven of the 13 events to secure a split. They topped Wheaton 126-110 but fell 124-119 to Clark.

    Mount Holyoke hosts longtime rivals Smith and Wellesley at its home invitational on Saturday. The non-scoring meet is slated to get underway at 10:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day. Swimmers who comete in all 19 events will be named "Iron Women" and will be recognized at the conclusion of the meet.

The Lyons came out on top in eight of the 13 events to secure their first win over the Bantams since the 2000-01 season. Williams and Bowers figured in on three wins apiece for the hosts.

    Mount Holyoke kicked off its 2011-12 slate at the 15th annual Betty Spears Relays this afternoon. A total of seven squads from around the region participated in the non-scoring competition, which took place at Wellesley’s Chandler Pool. Senior Lydia Bowers set the tone for the Lyons, who posted five top-five finishes.
  • Swimming and Diving Set to Open 2011-12 Season

    The Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team is slated to kick off its 2011-12 season at the Betty Spears Invitational on Saturday. Last winter, the Lyons posted a dual-meet record of 5-3 and took home top honors at the Regis Invitational. They are scheduled to take part in 13 meets this season.
