SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Nov. 22, 2011) - Sophomore Lauren Williams has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of November 14-20 after leading the swimming and diving team to a pair of dual meet victories over the weekend. She figured in on five first place finishes for Mount Holyoke, which improved to 3-1 on the year.

Williams was at her best on Friday, when she helped the Lyons defeat Trinity College for the first time since the 2000-01 season. After joining forces with Lydia Bowers, Sin Seanne Ng and Lindsey Kanno to post a winning time of 1:57.03 in the 200-yard medley relay, she touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.83) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.78). Mount Holyoke won the meet by a score of 136-104.

The sophomore was at it again in her team's 177-19 triumph over Western Connecticut State University on Saturday. In addition to grabbing first place in the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.42), she secured first place in the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.04) along with Ng, Bowers and Maya Lazarovich.

Williams has been one of the program's top swimmers since joining the team last fall.

Mount Holyoke (3-1) will return to action on Saturday, December 3, when it hosts the annual Pioneer Valley Invitational at 10:00 a.m. The Lyons will be joined by Wellesley College and Smith College at this year's event.
