Swimming and Diving Sinks Trinity For First Time in Decade

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Nov. 18, 2011) – Sophomore Lauren Williams and senior Lydia Bowers boosted the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team to a convincing 136-104 triumph over Trinity College this evening at the Mount Holyoke Natatorium.

The Lyons came out on top in eight of the 13 events to secure their first win over the Bantams since the 2000-01 season. Williams and Bowers figured in on three wins apiece for the hosts, who improved to 2-1 on the year.

Swimming After joining forces with sophomore Sin Seanne Ng and junior Lindsey Kanno to post a winning time of 1:57.03 in the 200-yard medley relay, they each recorded a pair of individual victories.

Williams touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.83) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.78), while Bowers prevailed in both the 100-yard (56.60) and 200-yard (2:05.18) freestyle events.

Mount Holyoke also received first place finishes from first years Maya Lazarovich (100-yard individual medley – 1:03.64) and Rachel Boynton (500-yard freestyle – 5:37.35).

The Lyons final victory of the night came from Boynton, junior Nora Cunningham, sophomore Allison Burhoe and senior Sarah Rooney, who claimed top honors in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.18.

Trinity was paced by sophomore Emily Johnson, who captured first place in both the one-meter (230.32) and three-meter (236.85) diving events.

Sophomore Chloe Miller (1,000-yard freestyle – 11:30.97), first year Audrey Butler (100-yard breaststroke – 1:10.87) and sophomore Megan Chiu (100-yard butterfly – 1:01.91) also found the winner's circle for the Bantams.

Mount Holyoke (2-1) will return to action tomorrow, when it visits Western Connecticut State University at noon. Meanwhile, Trinity (0-1) will travel to Bates College for a dual meet beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
