Swimming and Diving Caps Off Outstanding Weekend With Dominant Win at Simmons

BOSTON, Mass. (Jan. 14, 2012) – Dana Fry The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team capped off an outstanding weekend with a convincing 154-137 triumph over Simmons College this afternoon at the Holmes Sports and Fitness Center Pool. First year Maya Lazarovich figured in on four first place finishes to set the tone for the Lyons, who came out on top in 11 of the 16 events. It was their fourth straight win over the Sharks.

After teaming up with sophomore Lauren Williams, senior Lydia Bowers and sophomore Joselyn Auxer to post the winning time in the 200-yard medley relay (1:59.57), Lazarovich picked up individual victories in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.23), 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.22) and 100-yard individual medley (1:06.02 – pool record).

Bowers went on to touch the wall first in both the 50-yard (25.91) and 100-yard (56.34) freestyle races. Meanwhile, first year Rachel Boynton prevailed in both the 500-yard (5:41.19) and 1,000-yard (11:37.87) freestyle events.

Williams took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.85).

The Lyons also received a boost from first year Dana Fry, who chipped in with wins in both diving events. She finished with scores of 156.68 off the one-meter board and 164.03 off the three-meter board.   

Mount Holyoke (5-2) is slated to take part in the Seven Sisters Championship at Smith College next weekend. The annual competition will begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
