SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Nov. 9, 2011) – Led by sophomore Lauren Williams and first year Maya Lazarovich, the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team rolled to a 170-126 victory over Westfield State University in its 2011-12 home opener this evening. The Lyons prevailed in nine of the 16 events to secure their third straight win over the Owls. Williams and Lazarovich figured in on four first place finishes apiece to set the tone for the hosts.

After teaming up with Lazarovich, sophomore Sin Seanne Ng and senior Lydia Bowers to post a winning time of 1:57.84 in the 200-yard medley relay, Williams claimed individual titles in the 50-yard butterfly (28.74), 100-yard butterfly (1:04.06) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.50).

Meanwhile, Lazarovich touched the wall first in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.26), 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.81) and 200-yard individual medley (2:19.80).

Junior Nora Cunningham, junior Lindsey Kanno, first year Rachel Boynton and senior Sarah Rooney joined forces to win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.26. Boynton also came out on top in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:32.29).

Westfield State ended the night with a total of seven victories. Juniors Katie Cox and Jenna Tasse recorded two wins apiece to lead the way.

Cox was the top finisher in both the 200-yard (2:05.29) and 500-yard (5:33.47) freestyle races. Meanwhile, Tasse prevailed in both the 50-yard (25.57) and 100-yard (56.28) freestyle competitions.

The Owls also received a boost from junior Kim Schmidt, who captured top honors in both the one-meter (254.25) and three-meter (239.45) diving events.

First year Laura Sauriol tapped in first in the 50-yard backstroke (30.35) to round things out for the Owls.

Mount Holyoke (1-0) will return to action on Friday, when it visits Assumption College at 6:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Westfield State (0-1) will travel to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for a dual meet beginning at noon on Saturday.
