Lyons Game Day Central: Swimming and Diving vs. Trinity

THE MATCHUP: Nora Cunningham Mount Holyoke entertains Trinity College this evening (6:30 p.m.) at the Natatorium. In 32 previous meetings between the programs, the Lyons have come out on top 11 times. Their most recent victory over the Bantams came during the 2000-01 season. Last winter, Trinity prevailed for the 10th time in a row, winning by a score of 149-94. Lauren Williams figured in on two first place finishes to set the tone for Mount Holyoke. MHC Logo THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (1-1) rolled to a 170-126 triumph over Westfield State University in its first dual meet of the season last Wednesday. Lauren Williams and Maya Lazarovich figured in on four first place finishes apiece to lead the way for the Lyons. After teaming up with Lazarovich, Sin Seanne Ng and Lydia Bowers to post a winning time of 1:57.84 in the 200-yard medley relay, Williams claimed individual titles in the 50-yard butterfly (28.74), 100-yard butterfly (1:04.06) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.50). Meanwhile, Lazarovich touched the wall first in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.26), 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.81) and 200-yard individual medley (2:19.80). Nora Cunningham, Lindsey Kanno, Rachel Boynton and Sarah Rooney joined forces to win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.26. Boynton also came out on top in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:32.29). Mount Holyoke fell 148-108 at Assumption College last Friday. Bowers contributed to a pair of first performances to set the tone for the Lyons. After touching the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (57.91), she joined forces with Rooney, Cunningham and Kanno to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a pool-record time of 1:45.78. Meanwhile, Williams took home top honors in the 50-yard freestyle with her pool-record time of 26.29.

Opponent Logo THE BANTAMS: Trinity (0-0) will be making its 2011-12 debut this evening. The Bantams posted a dual meet record of 3-6 last winter. They finished 11th at the NESCAC Championships. Their top returnees from that squad include Shelby Friel, Emily Jensen, Carleigh Haron, Megan Chiu, Saya Lindsay and Joanna Wycech. Last winter, Trinity came out on top in contests against Vassar College, Mount Holyoke and Roger Williams University. 

NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke will return to action tomorrow, when it visits Western Connecticut State University at noon. Meanwhile, Trinity will travel to Bates College for a dual meet beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
