Led by 13th year head coach Dave Allen, the Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team posted a dual meet record of 5-3 in 2010-11. The Lyons defeated Westfield State University, Western Connecticut State University, Clark University, Simmons College and Smith College. They also picked up a first place finish at the Regis College Invitational.
For the first time in school history, Mount Holyoke hosted the NEWMAC Championship. The three day event included teams from all 10 member institutions.
Earlier in the year, the Lyons grabbed fourth place at the Seven Sisters Championship thanks to a standout effort from Lauren Williams. The first year was named to the All-Championship team after taking first place in the 200-yard backstroke.
Over the course of the season, Williams figured in on three school records. After teaming with first year Sin Seanne Ng, sophomore Madeline Magee and junior Lydia Bowers to win the 200-yard medley relay against Western Connecticut State with a time of 1:55.59, she joined forces with Magee, Bowers and senior Michelle Kroll to post a sixth place time of 1:40.71 in the 200-yard freestyle relay at the NEWMAC Championships. Later that weekend, she shattered her previous record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.39.
Magee matched Williams with three program records. In the process of winning the 100-yard breaststroke against Clark and Wheaton College, she established a new 50-yard breaststroke mark with her first split time of 32.48.
Williams played a part in 27 first place finishes during her rookie campaign. Other key contributors were sophomore Nora Cunningham, sophomore Lindsey Kanno, junior Sarah Rooney and senior Miki Yoshida.
The Lyons claimed the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award for the third time in program history.
