WESTON, Mass. (Nov. 13, 2010) – Using a balanced attack, the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team sprinted to a resounding victory this weekend at the Regis College Invitational. The Lyons claimed top honors in eight of the 16 events en route to their second straight title at the competition.

With their total of 813 points, they finished in front of the University of New England (665), Simmons College (553), Plymouth State University (405), Regis (253) and Husson University (185). Mount Holyoke's depth proved to be difference at the meet, which began with diving events last night and concluded with swimming events today.

The Lyons were paced by first year Lauren Williams and sophomore Madeline Magee, who figured in on three first place finishes apiece. After teaming up with first year Sin Seanne Ng and junior Sarah Rooney for a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:58.60), they each claimed a pair of individual victories. Williams touched the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.10) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.55), while Magee prevailed in both the 50 (33.45) and 100-yard (1:13.21) breaststroke competitions.

Rooney went on to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:46.05) along with sophomore Nora Cunningham, junior Lydia Bowers and senior Michelle Kroll.

Meanwhile, Ng and Bowers chipped in with individual triumphs in the 50-yard backstroke (30.96) and the 100-yard freestyle (57.11), respectively.

Mount Holyoke also received a boost from senior Kaitlin Mitchell, who recorded second place finishes in a pair of diving events. She accounted for 38 of her team's points with her scores of 130.45 in the one-meter voluntary and 147.15 in the one-meter optional.

The Lyons will travel to Westfield State University for a dual meet beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
