WELLESLEY, Mass. (Jan. 23, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team used a standout effort from first year Lauren Williams to secure fourth place at the annual Seven Sisters Championship this weekend. Host Wellesley College racked up 1,138 points en route to its 14th straight title at the event. Vassar College (805), Smith College (714.5), Mount Holyoke (648.5) and Bryn Mawr College (350) rounded out the field.

The competition began with 12 events yesterday and concluded with seven more today. Wellesley touched the wall first 10 times and used its overall depth to create separation from the remainder of the field. The Blue were paced by Dana Dutton and Keelin Nave, who collected five wins apiece. Bryn Mawr's Meredith Davis totaled three victories.

Lauren Williams Williams was named to the All-Championship team after taking first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a school record time of 2:16.15. The rookie also recorded second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.37) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.77) along with classmate Sin Seanne Ng, sophomore Madeline Magee and junior Lydia Bowers.

She joined forces with Magee, Bowers and sophomore Nora Cunningham to grab third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.52) before adding a pair of fourth place results. Those came in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:52.32) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:58.05). Her teammates for the relay were Cunningham, Magee and Bowers.

In addition to Williams, several other Lyons contributed top five finishes. Magee secured third place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.60), while Bowers took fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (56.69) and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (26.27). Bowers also registered a fourth place time in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:37.41) along with senior Miki Yoshida, sophomore Lindsey Kanno and first year Allison Burhoe.

Burhoe touched the wall fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:35.67), while Kanno grabbed fifth place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.13). Cunningham, Kanno, first year Joselyn Auxer and senior Michelle Kroll chipped in with a fourth place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (2:02.04).

Mount Holyoke (4-2) is slated to return to Wellesley for a dual meet next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
