• Swimming and Diving Grabs CSCAA Academic All-American Accolades

    The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recently announced its Scholar All-American Teams for the 2011 spring semester. A total of 93 Division III women’s squads from around the nation were honored. Among those was Mount Holyoke College, which posted a team grade point average of 3.25.
  • 2010-11 Swimming and Diving Year in Review

    Led by veteran head coach Dave Allen, the Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team posted a dual meet record of 5-3 in 2010-11. The Lyons defeated Westfield State, Western Connecticut State, Clark, Simmons and Smith. They also picked up a first place finish at the Regis College Invitational.

    The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Volleyball player Kara Neidhardt served as the event’s emcee. Rider Lindsay Sceats earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2010-11 Winter Academic All-Conference Teams. Nine Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of basketball and swimming and diving.
  • Mount Holyoke Named a 2011 Best Value College

    Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011" on February 22. The list features 100 schools in all - 50 private and 50 public colleges and universities.
  • Swimming and Diving Team Claims NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award For Third Time

    For the third time in five years, Mount Holyoke has earned the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award. The league office recently announced all of its postseason award winners for the 2010-11 season. Mount Holyoke also received the Sportsmanship Award in 2007 and 2008.
  • MIT Crowned NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Champions

    For the first time in school history, MIT took home top honors at the NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship. With their win, the Engineers put an end to Springfield 10-year reign as league champions. Host Mount Holyoke was once again paced by first year Lauren Williams, who broke her own school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a 10th place time of 2:12.39.
  • MIT Moves to Top of Standings at NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship

    The 2011 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship continued with seven more events today at Mount Holyoke. With just one day remaining, MIT has overtaken 10-time reigning champion Springfield at the top of the leader board. The Engineers prevailed in five events to increase their point total to 614.5.

    Ten-time reigning champion Springfield has taken the early lead after one day of competition at the 2011 NEWMAC Championship. Mount Holyoke's top performance of the day came from Michelle Kroll, Madeline Magee, Lauren Williams and Lydia Bowers, who broke the program record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.71.

Junior Lydia Bowers and first year Lauren Williams figured in on four wins apiece for the Lyons. Prior to the competition, Michelle Kroll, Ruth Asch, Kaitlin Mitchell, Lauren Rarick, Sarah Schultz and Miki Yoshida were honored.

    Mount Holyoke rounds out its home slate versus longtime rival Smith College Saturday afternoon (1:00 p.m.) at the Mount Holyoke Natatorium. In 27 previous meetings between the programs, the Pioneers own a 21-6 advantage. Last season, they downed the Lyons for the fourth time in a row, winning by a score of 167-133.

    Mount Holyoke suffered a 168-127 setback at Wellesley this afternoon. Madeline Magee paced the Lyons with one first place finish and three second place results. The sophomore took home top honors in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.79) and second place in the 50-yard butterfly (28.59). She also figured in on a pair of second place relay finishes.

    Swimmer Madeline Magee has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of January 10-16 after leading her team to a pair of dual meet victories over the weekend. In the process of winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.14) in Mount Holyoke's 168-130 triumph over Clark University on Friday, the sophomore established a new 50-yard breaststroke school record with her first split time of 32.48.

    Led by sophomore Madeline Magee and first years Lauren Williams and Sin Seanne Ng, the Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team cruised to a 175-119 triumph over Simmons College this afternoon and the Natatorium. A total of 10 Lyons figured in on wins for the hosts, who touched the wall first in 13 of the 16 events.

    Mount Holyoke hosts Clark University and Wheaton College for a tri-meet this afternoon in South Hadley, Mass. Both men and women will take part in the event, which is slated to get underway at 3:00 p.m. The Lyons have been off since December 4, when they hosted their home invitational. They own a perfect 2-0 mark.

    Following a 40 day hiatus, the Mount Holyoke swimming and diving team returned to action with a tri-meet against Clark University and Wheaton College this afternoon at the Natatorium. Wheaton swept the meet, downing the Lyons 162-130 and the Cougars 153-142. Mount Holyoke notched a 168-130 triumph over Clark in the third matchup.

The teams have finished in a deadlock on one occasion. Last season, Mount Holyoke rolled to a 161-138 triumph over the Sharks. They also prevailed 154-145 during the 2008-09 campaign.

With their second straight victory over the Colonials, the Lyons improved to 2-0 on the year. Their 200-yard medley relay team won with a program record time of 1:55.59.
