NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The final day of action at the 2019 Open New England Championships is in the books and the Mount Holyoke College track & field team concluded the event in fine fashion. The Lyons recorded seven points on the weekend, earning 27th overall in the field of 40 teams.

Saturday's action saw the 4x800-meter relay team compete in the multi-divisional event. First year Sydney Nash (New Hartford, Conn./Enfield), seniors Emsie Cronin (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) and Corrin Moss (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Alternative HS), along with sophomore Simone Jacob (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University HS) combined to post a time of 9:35.81. That time ranked ninth overall in the field and was the only NEWMAC relay in the event.

On Friday evening, the Lyons saw three in action for the gruelling 10,000-meter run. Sophomore Hannah Rieders (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) paced the effort, finishing fifth in the event with a time of 37:57.81. Her sister, Madeline Rieders (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) was on her heels, earning sixth with a nearly matching mark of 37:57.82. Both were just two seconds short of the school record, while also finishing as the top two runners among the five conference runners in the multi-divisional event.

Senior captain Hannah Gershone (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) also competed in the 10k, earning 19th overall. She crossed the line in a time of 40:03.24, outpacing a number of Division I, II, and III runners.

Mount Holyoke will now see select individuals compete on Thursday at MIT's Last Chance Invitational.
