Track & Field Shines on Day 1 of Open New England Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Mount Holyoke College saw three Lyons in action on Friday evening at the 2019 Open New England Championships at Southern Connecticut State University. MHC currently stands in 16th place of 33 teams in the field following a strong effort in the 10000-meter run.

Sophomore Hannah Rieders (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) paced the effort, finishing fifth in the event with a time of 37:57.81. Her sister, Madeline Rieders (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) was on her heels, earning sixth with a nearly matching mark of 37:57.82. Both were just two seconds short of the school record, while also finishing as the top two runners among the five conference runners in the multi-divisional event.

Senior captain Hannah Gershone (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) also competed in the 10k, earning 19th overall. She crossed the line in a time of 40:03.24, outpacing a number of Division I, II, and III runners.

Mount Holyoke is back in action on Saturday afternoon when the 4x800-meter relay competes around 3:45pm or so. Live results can be followed at www.harrierrace.comllive.
