Track & Field Solid at Rhode Island College Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was a day of personal-bests and top performances for the Mount Holyoke College track & field team, which competed at the 2018 Rhode Island College Invitational. The event, which was non-scoring, saw the Lyons post 15 personal-record marks on the day.

First year Margaret Robb got things going in the 60-meter dash, posting a personal best time of 8.77 for 11th overall. In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Isabelle Wohlin earned 10th overall with a time of 28.83, while Robb was 14th in the same event with a time of 29.54.

In the 800-meter run, sophomore Meryl Phair took seventh with a personal record mark of 2:46.12, while in the mile, she earned a personal-best time of 5:43.17 to earn seventh in that event as well. First year Natalie Rodman was close behind in ninth with a time of 5:56.50. She also took seventh overall in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:30.95 - another personal best.

The 3,000-meter run saw several outstanding performances, paced by sophomore Simone Jacob, who was third overall with a personal record time of 10:58.84. Rookie Sydney Nash also posted a personal-best time in the event, earning fourth with a time of 11:07.26. Senior captain Corrin Moss was sixth with a time of 11:18.72, while junior Emma Raney and rookie Sophia Gronbeck were 9th (11:29.17) and 10th (11:31.29 - personal mark), respectively.

Action continued in the 5000-meter run as senior captain Hannah Gershone took second overall with a personal-best indoor time of 19:40.43. Classmate Emsie Cronin also finished strong with a personal record of 20:21.88. Rookie Amanda Kearney also notched a personal-best, posting a time of 20:47.66 to take seventh.

The 60-meter hurdles saw first year Sarah Bishop take seventh overall. She crossed the line in a personal-best time of 10.84. In the 4x800-meter relay, Nash (2:32), Gronbeck, Cronin and Jacob (2:28) combined to post a time of 10:21.18 - which put the foursome second overall.

Bishop went on to compete in the long jump, taking sixth overall with a season's best distance of 4.58 meters. Senior captain Julia Hecking then took seventh to round out the events in the weight throw. She notched a distance of 13.18 meters (43-03.00), which was a personal record for her.
 
Mount Holyoke will now take a break for the holidays, but is back in action on January 20 when it competes at the GBTC Invitational, hosted at Harvard University.
