Track & Field Shines at MIT's Kelly Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College indoor track & field team was back in action on Saturday, competing at the non-team scoring Gordon Kelly Invitational at MIT. The Lyons saw a number of solid efforts on the day

In the 1-mile run, senior Corrin Moss powered her way to fourth overall with a personal record time of 5:35.33. The Lyons then saw rookie Jamie Day power her way to second overall in the 3,000-meter run. She crossed the line in a personal record time of 11:30.59 and was followed by junior Michelle Serrano, who was fifth with a time of 11:39.01 - also a personal best. Rookie Sophia Gronbeck also had a solid effort, earning eighth overall with a time of 11:47.24.

In the 5,000-meters, senior Hannah Gershone earned fifth with a personal best time of 19:27.88, while rookies Sophia Anderson and Amanda Kearney were ninth (21:05.70 - personal best) and 10th (21:15.04), respectively. The 60-meter hurdles event then saw sophomore Isabelle Wohlin finish seventh, crossing the line in a DIII New England qualifying time of 9.77.

The 4x200-meter relay saw Wohlin, rookies Michaela Phelan and Sarah Bishop, along with junior Charleen Theroux post second with a time of 2:01.63,

Mount Holyoke then dominated in the 4x800-meter relay as the Lyons went 1-2-3. Pacing the victory was rookie Sydney Nash, Moss, senior Emsie Cronin and sophomore Simone Jacob, who posted a winning time of 10:11.51. The foursome of sophomore Madeline Rieders, Rodman, Gronbeck and Hannah Rieders were second with a time of 10:49.71, while Serrano, Lindblom, sophomore Olivia Wrobleski and senior Victoria Parrish were third - crossing in a time of 11:49.99.

In the triple jump, Wohlin placed 14th overall with a distance of 9.85 meters. Bishop also competed in the event, finishing 22nd with a jump of 9.22 meters. In the weight throw, senior Julia Hecking took fifth overall with a DIII New England Qualifying distance and personal record mark of 13.70 meters.

Additionally on the day, the Lyons saw four student-athletes head back to the BU Valentine Invitational to compete in the distance medley relay. Nash, Theroux, Cronin and Jacob competed for MHC, earning 26th overall in a time of 12:46.20.

Following the meet, the Lyons handed out their weekly awards. Katie Milligan was named the Teammate of the Week, Moss was the Runner of the Week, while Hecking earned Field Athlete of the Week honors.

Mount Holyoke is back in action next Saturday when it travels to Vermont for the Middlebury College Team Challenge. Action begins at 11am.
