Philadelphia, Pa. - December 8, 2021 - First-year goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reistertown, Md.) of the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team has been selected to the 18-athlete roster for the Open Women's Field Hockey Team for the 21st Maccabiah, taking place July 2022 in Israel.

Katzenberg will play among student-athletes that represent some of the top field hockey programs around the country, including No. 2-ranked and national runner-up Johns Hopkins, as well as Diviison-I programs such as Yale, University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown.

In 2021, Katzenberg made 12 starts for the Lyons and totaled 110 saves on the year, which ranked No. 5 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Katzenberg collected a career-best 17 saves on September 25 versus WPI, and earned her first-career shutout in a 1-0 victory over Wheaton College on October 29.

The first Maccabiah was held in in Ramat Gan in 1932 with 390 athletes from 18 countries taking part. Traditionally held every four years, interrupted only by the Second World War, by 2017 the Games had grown to include nearly 10,000 Jewish athletes from more than 75 countries competing in 40 sports, making it the third largest international multi-sport event in the world following only the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup.

The Maccabi USA delegation to the 20th Maccabiah in the summer of 2017 numbered 1,131 members, the largest traveling delegation in the history of not just Jewish sporting events but all international multi-sport competitions.
