Field Hockey Drops Overtime Decision to Wellesley, 2-1

Wellesley, Mass. - October 23, 2021 - Senior midfielder Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) notched her seventh goal of the season but the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team fell to host Wellesley College, 2-1, in overtime, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Butler Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lyons are now 3-9 overall and 2-5 in league play, while the Blue improves to 7-6 on the year with a 5-2 mark in conference. Wellesley owned a 20-10 shot advantage over 60 minutes, as the Blue were also awarded nine penalty corners to the Lyons' five.

In net for the Lyons, Rachel Katzenberg (Reistertown, Md.) shouldered the loss despite a 10-save performance, while her counterpart, Kyra Deehr-Lewis picked up the win making three saves in just over 60 minutes of action.

It took just 1:40 for Mount Holyoke College to get on the board as Robb picked up her seventh goal of the season to give Mount Holyoke College an early 1-0 lead. Wellesley looked to answer with 9:22 on the clock as the Blue was awarded a penalty corner which ended up in a shot from Maddie Bettencourt, but Katzenberg came up big with a save to keep Wellesley off the board.

The Lyons looked to push their lead to two with 3:30 on the clock in the first quarter as Mollee Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) sent in a penalty corner that produced shots from Phoebe Aaronson (Mountain View, Calif.) and Malboeuf, but a pair of defensive saves from Lindsay Strong kept Mount Holyoke's lead at one.

Wellesley finally evened the score at one with 28 seconds to play in the first half as Cass Novello scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Amy Kate Williams to make it 1-1 just before the halftime break.

The Blue would outshoot Mount Holyoke 9-2 in the second half and both teams remained scoreless at the end of regulation, forcing overtime.

Just 2:05 into the extra frame, Williams tucked her third goal of the season to lift Wellesley to victory.
