Worcester, Mass. - September 25, 2021 - The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to WPI in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at Alumni Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lyons are now 1-5 overall and fall to 0-2 in league play, while the Enginners are now 6-2 on the year with a 2-0 mark against NEWMAC opponents. WPI held a 27-6 shot advantage over 60 minuts of play, while the Engineers also benefitted from 18 penalty corners to the Lyons' four.

First-year goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reistertown, Md.) made a career-best 17 saves in the setback, while WPI's MC Shea and Nini Acquista split time with Shea making four saves and Acquista earning her sixth win of the year.

After scoreless play for the majority of the first quarter, WPI got on the board with 2:52 to play in the frame when Abigail Rauch converted a chance set up by Lauren Dishong to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead after 15 minutes.

WPI added their second of the contest just 4:54 into the second quarter as Lauren Meinhold set up Emily Sollecito for a strike, before Eliza Dutson added a goal to give the Engineers a 3-0 lead at the halftime break. The Engineers added a pair more to open the second half as both Dishong and Sollecito found the back of the net to extend WPI's lead to five.

With 6:36 remaining, Mount Holyoke College got on the board when Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season as the senior midfielder put a long shot on cage which deflected off of a WPI defender and past Shea for the Lyons' lone goal of the contest.

The Lyons were able to produce a penalty corner with four seconds remaining in the contest but the WPI defensive unit kept Mount Holyoke at bay.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will turn their attention to Clark University as the Lyons will host the Cougars in NEWMAC play on Saturday, October 2 at 12 p.m.
