Lawrence's Four-Goal Effort Leads Field Hockey Past Springfield, 5-2

South Hadley, Mass. - October 19, 2021 - Senior forward Kass Lawrence (Holyoke, Mass.) found the back of the net four times as the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated Springfield College, 5-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at the MHC Turf & Track Complex on Tuesday evening.

Lawrence became just the eighth student-athlete in Mount Holyoke College field hockey program history to score four goals in a single game as the senior came just one shy of Angelica Pascual's record of five, which was established in a 6-0 victory over Wheaton on September 25, 2012.

With the win, the Lyons improve to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in league play while the Pride slip to 4-9 on the year with a 1-5 record against league foes. Mount Holyoke College held a 33-12 shot advantage over 60 minutes of play and was granted four penalty corners compared to the Pride's seven.

Mount Holyoke College also received an impressive performance from senior midfielder Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) who was all over the field, collecting 12 shots, eight of which were on cage, and her sixth goal of the season to help the Lyons to victory. In net, Rachel Katzenberg (Reistertown, Md.) earned her third win of the year with a four-save performance while her counterpart, Lyndsey DeLasho posted 13 saves in the setback.

Mount Holyoke College got on the board just 30 seconds into the game when Robb played a ball into Mollee Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) from the right sideline before the junior turned around a slipped a pass to Lawrence in front of the net. Lawrence made no mistake about it and capitalized on the opportunity to give the Lyons an early 1-0 lead.

Springfield College then responded with a pair of goals just 2:03 apart as Grace Majka tipped home a shot from Emma Robinson with 8:24 on the clock before Mollie Duclos picked up a rebound an tucked a shot past Katzenberg to make it 2-1, Pride, with 6:21 remaining in the first quarter.

The two sides went back-and-forth until the waning seconds of the second quarter when Sophia Guziewicz (Enfield, N.H.) made a great play along the right sideline before firing a ball towards cage. After the ball carried through to the far side of the net, Lawrence dove and was just able to tip it past DeLasho for her second of the game, knotting the score at 2-2 just prior to the halftime break.

Midway through the third quarter the Lyons took a one-goal advantage as Robb scored on an unassisted strike with 8:10 on the clock. The senior carried the ball all the way down the left side of the field before cutting to the middle and beating DeLasho for her sixth goal of the season. Just 4:11 later, Lawrence gave the Lyons some insurance as Robb sent a ball in from the right sideline, which was tipped off the post by Malboeuf. From there, Lawrence hurried to the rebound, turned, and fired a shot past DeLasho to make it 4-2, Lyons, with 3:59 to play in the third.

Mount Holyoke College scored its fifth and final goal with 1:49 remaining as Robb fired a shot on net, which was saved by DeLasho, but Lawrence once again dove and connected with the loose ball, resulting in her fourth of the game and team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College travels to Wellesley College for a pivotal NEWMAC matchup with the Blue. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
