Lawrence Strikes Late to Lift Field Hockey to 3-2 Win at Thomas College

Waterville, Maine - September 11, 2021 - Senior midfielder Margaret Robb (Summit, N.J.) found the back of the net twice and classmate Kass Lawrence (Holyoke, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season as the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team defeated Thomas College, 3-2, en route to their first win of the 2021 season.

The Lyons are now 1-2 overall while the Terriers fall to 0-4 on the year. Thomas held a slight 13-12 advantage in shots over 60 minutes of play while the hosts were granted 10 penalty corners compared to the Lyons eight. In net, first-year goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reistertown, Md.) held strong and made three stops en route to her first collegiate victory.

The first quarter was full of action as the Lyons earned a penalty corner in the first minute of the game which produced a bid from Abby Baldwin (Florence, Mass.) that went just wide. Midway through the frame, the Lyons held strong defensively as the defensive unit blocked three-consecutive shots to keep the Terriers at bay. With 6:34 to play in the first quarter, Mount Holyoke College got on the board with Robb's first tally of the game and of the season, an unassisted strike.

After the Terriers pulled even at one just 3:48 later, Robb found the back of the net once again with 2:18 to play in the first quarter, granting the Lyons a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes of action. Robb almost completed the first-quarter hat trick but a pair of saves from Thomas goalkeeper Elise Syphers kept it a one-goal game. .

The two sides battled back-and-forth until the fourth quarter when Thomas pulled even at 2-2 just 1:36 into the frame. With 3:35 remaining, Lawrence found the back of the net to lift the Lyons to their first victory of the year

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will play its first contest at the Turf and Track Complex on Wednesday, September 15 as the Lyons host Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
