SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Hosting Keene State College for a non-conference match featuring a costume contest on Halloween Night, the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-17) to the visiting Owls.
Keene State (11-15) registered its ninth straight win against Mount Holyoke (11-11) in an irregular series with the last contest occurring in 2016. The Owls are now 11-4 all-time against the Lyons.
Mount Holyoke posted more kills (34-30) than Keene State, but the Lyons were done in by 14 service errors and eight receiving errors in the match. Keene State enjoyed strong passing throughout the match, as Mount Holyoke served up a season-low one ace on the night. The Lyons attacked at a .104 percentage for the match to Keene State's .152 rate.
Junior Madeline Barton (Brookfield, Wis.) had 13 kills and senior Lucie Berclaz (Vaud, Switzerland) had 11 to lead Mount Holyoke's attack. First-year Olivia Murray (Miami, Fla.) added eight kills on 19 attempts (.316). Junior Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 25 assists and nine digs, and sophomore Kyra Staples (Chatham, Ill.) had a team-high 10 digs.
Gigi Stake had a team-high nine kills for the Owls, against one attack error on 31 attempts (.258). Marina Miller had seven kills and Stephanie Olah added six kills on 17 attempts (.294). Theresa Norris had a match-high 18 digs and Alexis Small passed out 25 assists.
Mount Holyoke returns to action on Saturday, hosting a tri-match with Bridgewater State and Fisher College. The Lyons face Bridgewater State at 11am and Fisher College at 3pm.
