WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team got the 2024 season off to a 2-0 start on Saturday at the University of Saint Joseph, sweeping the host Blue Jays 3-0 before posting a second 3-0 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University.
The Lyons (2-0) have opened the past three seasons against the same two opponents -- while they defeated the Blue Jays in both 2023 and 2022, they fell 3-0 to Eastern in both years.
This time, Mount Holyoke defeated Eastern 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-22), coming back from an 18-10 deficit in the third set to complete the sweep.

The Lyons limited the Blue Jays to a -.075 attack percentage over the full course of their season-opening match.
Junior Madeline Barton (Middleton, Wis.) had 11 kills and eight service aces, accounting for 19.5 of the Lyons' 49 points. Senior captain Lucie Berclaz (Hull, Mass.) had a team-high 15 digs along with five kills, and junior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) posted six kills. Junior Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 27 assists and sophomore Kyra Staples (Chatham, Ill.) posted 11 digs and five aces.

Barton notched a double-double in three sets with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Staples totaled a whopping 31 digs to lead the Lyons in the win.
Duffrin doled out 28 assists and Rimando had seven kills in the win. First-year Annika Lackstrom (New London, N.H.) contributed four kills and three blocks.
Mount Holyoke will travel to North Adams, Mass., on Thursday for a 7pm match at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
