Volleyball rises to 8-1 before splitting tri-match at Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College volleyball team rose to 8-1 with a 3-0 victory over host Worcester State on Saturday, before the Lyons' five-match win streak ended with a 3-0 loss to Suffolk University.

Mount Holyoke (8-2) begins NEWMAC play Tuesday at 7pm, hosting Smith College in Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.

Junior middle hitter Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) had nine kills, four service aces and seven digs as the Lyons swept the Lancers (2-9).

Mount Holyoke hit at a .197 percentage for the match to Worcester State's .054.

Sophomore middle hitter Katie Frank (Prairieville, La.), first-year Olivia Murray (Miami, Fla.), and senior Lucie Berclaz (Hull, Mass.) tallied six kills apiece, with Berclaz adding 10 digs. Junior Sadie Duffrin (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 19 assists and three kills and sophomore Kyra Staples (Chatham, Ill.) totaled a team-high 17 digs in three sets.

Suffolk 3, Mount Holyoke 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-19) (BOX)

Suffolk rose to 11-2 with the Rams' 25-20, 25-21, 25-19 win that capped the day. Mount Holyoke attacked at a .089 clip to Suffolk's .140.

Junior outside hitter Madeline Barton (Brookfield, Wis.) had 10 kills and 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the year in three sets.

Staples and junior Amelia Ringor (Lafayette, Ind.) joined Barton in a tie for the team lead in digs with 13. Berclaz and Rimando added eight and six kills, respectively, and Duffrin posted 23 assists.
