Track and field excels in first full outdoor meet at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke track and field team took advantage of its first full outdoor meet in decent weather conditions Sunday at the Westfield State Jerry Gravel Invitational, a non-scoring meet which included competition from UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth, Western New England University, Westfield State and Wheaton.

The Lyons won three events and made five changes to the program all-time top 10 performance lists.

Headline performances by Mount Holyoke included:

  • Senior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) won the 1,500 meters in a career-best time of 4:55.27, taking 0.37 seconds off of her previous PR. Beaver ranks sixth all-time in the event at MHC.
  • Mount Holyoke placed four of the top five runners in a field of 18 runners in the 800 meters, led by sophomore Dalia Luckhardt (Cerritos, Calif.) with a first-place time of 2:24.74. Luckhardt moved into ninth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time top 10 list in the event, passing Devan Ravino (2023) and Rebecca Rogers (2014).
  • Senior Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) placed second in the 800 in 2:25.41, followed by first-year Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) in fourth place (2:28.11) and sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) in fifth (2:28.62).
  • Senior Elizabeth Gerbi (Orono, Maine) and Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 1-2 in their first 3,000 steeplechases of the season, with times of 11:57.55 and 12:02.29, respectively.
  • Junior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) recorded a career-best triple jump of 11.05 meters (36'3"), finishing second in the event and moving from third to second place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list, passing Maggie Mills (2002). Rimando passed her previous best mark on five of her six attempts.
  • Rimando also placed second in the long jump (5.22 meters/17'1.5").
  • Senior Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) placed second out of 10 sprinters in the 100 meters in 13.22 seconds. Mallare also recorded an outdoor best mark of 4.89 meters (16'0.5") in the long jump, placing fifth.
  • First-year Molly Touch (Methuen, Mass.) placed second out of nine competitors in the javelin throw with a top effort of 29.33 meters (96'2"). Touch lands in eighth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the event after her big day, passing Erin Siegel (2024), Andi Villasenor (2005) and senior Lize Brown (2024) on the list.
  • Sophomore Ioanna Tsoni (Athens, Greece) placed second out of 16 competitors in the 200 meters with a time of 26.56 seconds. Tsoni also placed second in her first 100 hurdles of the season, in 16.22 seconds.
  • Junior Em Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine) placed fifth out of 14 competitors in the hammer throw (35.36 meters/116'0").
  • Junior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.) took sixth place among 16 runners in the 1,500 meters in 5:17.60.
  • Junior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) placed sixth out of 16 in the 1,500 meters at 5:21.43.
  • Senior Abby Elliott (Carmel, Ind.) made the finals in the discus throw and finished seventh out of 18 overall at 25.27 meters (82'11").
  • Senior Cynthia Akanaga (Imo, Nigeria) placed sixth in the 400 meters (1:11.08).
  • Sophomore Fannie Fouron (North Easton, Mass.) led three Lyons competing in the shot put, placing 12th out of 21 athletes at 8.80 meters (28'10.5").
  • Mount Holyoke also made a mark in the 4x400 relay with a first-place time of 4:16.28 recorded by Robinson, Trapp, Luckhardt and Beaver. Their time made them the sixth-fastest 4x400 team in program history.

The Lyons will compete at Wellesley College on Saturday, April 19 for the MHC-Smith-Wellesley Tri-Meet.
