Track and field makes waves at Middlebury Field & Track Meet

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Mount Holyoke track and field team marked their trip to the Middlebury College Field and Track Meet with some outstanding performances, including three that made waves on the program's all-time top 10 lists.

The non-scoring meet included student-athletes from nine teams, including McGill University.

Highlights for the Lyons included:

  • Sophomore Ioanna Tsoni (Athens, Greece) came within two centimeters from her own team record in the long jump, winning the event among 17 competitors with a top distance of 5.44 meters (17'10.25"). Tsoni also placed third in the triple jump (10.81 meters/35'5.75").
  • Senior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) vaulted into seventh place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the mile, finishing in 5:21.64, fourth-fastest among 18 competitors.
  • Sophomore Dalia Luckhardt (Cerritos, Calif.) jumped from seventh to fifth on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in her second career 600-meter race, placing fourth out of 12 runners in 1:43.97.
  • The quartet of Tsoni, sophomore Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe), junior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii), and senior Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) became Mount Holyoke's fourth-fastest 4x200 relay team with their time of 1:50.52.
  • Senior Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) ran the third-fastest 3,000 meters in a field of 15 runners, finshing in a season-best 10:39.88.
  • Senior Elizabeth Gerbi (Orono, Maine) took fifth place in the 3,000 meters in a career-best 11:03.14.
  • Sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) placed seventh in the 600 meters in 1:47.67.
  • First-year Katherine Herring (Lebanon, N.H.) came in fourth in the 800 meters (2:35.91).
  • Mallare placed sixth out of 17 athletes in the long jump (4.77 meters/15'7.75").
  • Senior Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) placed seventh in the mile in 5:35.51.
  • Senior Lize Brown (New London, N.H.) led six Lyons in the shot put, placing 10th out of 32 at 9.63 meters (31'7.25"). Brown also led Mount Holyoke in the weight throw, placing ninth in 10.78 meters.

Mount Holyoke will have student-athletes competing at both Tufts University and the BU Valentine Invitational on Saturday.
