NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College track and field team got some big personal-best performances out of its small group of student-athletes competing at the Hampshire College Invitational on Saturday at Smith College.
The meet included a mix of athletes from UMass-Boston, Westfield State, Wentworth, Colby-Sawyer, Bard, Fitchburg State, Albany College of Pharmacy, Hampshire, Sage, Hartford and Smith, in addition to Mount Holyoke.
Standouts for the Lyons included:
- Sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) ran her first-ever 800 meters and took first place among seven competitors in an impressive 2:34.65.
- Sophomore Zivaishe Jaravaza (Harare, Zimbabwe) took second place among 10 competitors in the 400 meters, with a personal-best time of 1:06.61.
- Senior Lize Brown (New London, Conn.) posted a big personal record in the weight throw at 11.31 meters (37'1.25"), fifth best among 22 competitors. Brown moved into ninth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the event.
- Sophomore Fannie Fouron (North Easton, Mass.) also recorded a big PR in the shot put at 9.23 meters (30'3.25"), eighth best among 21 competitors.
The Lyons will compete next Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Middlebury College Field & Track Meet.
