Strong weekend for track and field at Tufts and Bryant

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Tufts Snowflake Classic lived up to its name on a chilly Saturday, where the Mount Holyoke track and field team had a pair of fifth-place performances at the 20-team meet.

The Lyons also had two runners run outstanding races in the 10,000 meters on Friday night at Bryant University (details below).

Amidst flurries at Tufts, senior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) placed fifth among 56 runners in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish line in 4:58.90.

Senior Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) ran the fifth-fastest time among 43 competitors in the 100 meters with a time of 13.17 seconds, just 0.01 off of her personal best time, to take fifth place out of 43 competitors in the event.

Other notable performances by the Lyons included:

  • Senior Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) placed ninth out of 56 runners in the 1,500 meters in 5:00.32.
  • First-year Sachi Robinson (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed 11th (2:29.46) and sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) placed 15th (2:33.32) among 55 competitors in the 800 meters.
  • Sophomore Dalia Luckhardt (Cerritos, Calif.) took 17th place out of 56 in the 1,500 meters, in 5:16.00.
  • Junior Em Tetzlaff (Bath, Maine) placed ninth out of 35 competitors in the hammer throw at 34.87 meters (114'5").
  • Senior Abby Elliott (Carmel, Ind.) was 15th out of 35in the discus throw at 24.85 meters (81'6").
  • First-year Molly Touch (Methuen, Mass.) placed 14th out of 28 in the javelin throw at 25.57 meters (83'10").
  • Junior Kiera McLaughlin (Keene, N.H.) was 25th out of 35 in the shot put, at 8.09 meters (26'6.5").

Bryant Black & Gold Invitational

Mount Holyoke also had team two members compete impressively in the 10,000-meter run on Friday evening at the Bryant University Black & Gold Invitational in Smithfield, R.I.:

Junior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) became the program's 10th-fastest runner all-time in the 10K, finishing 14th out of 21 runners in 40:24.01. Junior Sarah West (Concord, N.H.), meanwhile, finished close behind in 40:27.45, just outside MHC's top 10 all-time.

The Lyons compete next Saturday, April 5 at the Amherst College Spring Fling, starting at 11am.
