BOSTON and MEDFORD, Mass. -- With Lyons student-athletes competing at two large meets on Saturday, the BU Valentine Invitational and the Tufts Stampede Open, the Mount Holyoke track and field team recorded a slew of personal-best marks, including six changes to the program's all-time top-10 performance lists.
Competing among many of the top runners of all divisions at Boston University, Mount Holyoke senior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) recorded a new personal best in the indoor 800 meters with her time of 2:21.31, 1.62 seconds faster than her former PR. Beaver moved ahead of Niki Lefebre (2003) and Johanna Thomas (2005) and into third place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the indoor 800.
Lyons highlights at the Tufts Stampede included:
- Senior Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) ran a personal-best time of 3:09.01 in the 1,000 meters, second-fastest in a field of 16 competitors. Trapp improved her position as the sixth-fastest Lyon all-time in the event.
- Junior Elle Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) ran the eighth-fastest 200 meters in a field of 46 competitors with her personal-best time of 27.03 seconds. Rimando strengthened her position as eighth all-time at Mount Holyoke in the indoor 200.
- Sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) ran a personal-best 1:45.33 in the 600 meters, good for sixth place among 16 runners. Phadnis jumped past Elizabeth Knowlton (1996) and Naomi Miller (2014) into ninth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the event.
- Senior Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) finished her first 5,000 meters of the season in 18:19.97, sixth-fastest among 29 runners.
- Senior Elizabeth Gerbi (Orono, Maine) finished the 5,000 meters in a career-best 18:59.04, moving past Meredith Carey (1996) and Elizabeth DeLeon (2016) and into ninth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list in the event.
- Senior Lize Brown (New London, Conn.) marked a 23-centimeter PR in the weight throw at 11.54 meters (37'10.50"), strengthening Brown's hold of ninth place on Mount Holyoke's all-time performance list. Brown also led six Lyons in the shot put at 8.80 meters (28'10.50").
- Senior Aria Mallare (Chicago, Ill.) ran the 11th-fastest 60 meters among 30 competitors at a season-best 8.30 seconds.
Mount Holyoke will next compete in the Mount Holyoke-Smith-Wellesley Tri-Meet at Smith College next Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11am.
