AMHERST, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke junior Elle Rimando took advantage of the UMass-Amherst Last Chance Meet on Thursday by setting a new team record in the triple jump, with a huge personal-best performance of 39 feet and 1 inch that could send her to the NCAA Championships.

On her sixth and final attempt of the day, Rimando (Mililani, Hawaii) hopped, skipped and jumped 11.91 meters, 57 centimeters beyond her previous best mark of 11.34 meters from the NEWMAC Championships in April.

Rimando added 15 centimeters to the team record established by sophomore teammate Ioanna Tsoni (Athens, Greece) less than two weeks ago at the New England Division III Championships. She recorded a personal best on her third attempt at 11.52 meters, then tied Tsoni's mark of 11.76 on her fourth attempt, fouled on her fifth, and soared 11.91 meters to break the mark on the final attempt.

Rimando also competed in the long jump, marking a season-best at 5.31 meters (17'5.25").

Rimando rose in the national rankings to tie for 20th place in Division III with Eden Maranell of St. Norbert. The top 22 individuals in each event earn invitations to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, which will be held next week at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Tsoni is tied for 28th place in the country in the triple jump, and she is tied for 13th in the nation in the long jump.
