WORCESTER, Mass. – It was another solid day of action as the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team concluded action at the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Sunday. The Lyons finished this year's event in eighth place, compiling 253 points.
The final day's action got started with the 1650-yard freestyle as sophomore Ashton Bliss placed 11th overall with a time of 19:05.18. Junior Natalie Burkett was 18th in the event with a time of 19:52.01, while senior captain Delany Berry and sophomore Allyn Dunlap were 21st (20:24.50) and 22nd (20:46.27), respectively.
In the 200-yard backstroke, sophomore Jacqueline Park placed 22nd overall with a time of 2:14.82, while in the 100-yard freestyle, classmate Tamara Mukulu was 36th with a time of 57.10. In the 200-yard breaststroke, rookie Adrienne Corr was 25th with a time of 2:38.75, while in the 200-yard butterfly, sophomore Naomi Brown and Bliss were 22nd (2:18.85) and 23rd (2:19.13), respectively.
The 3-meter diving event saw junior captain Samantha Nemivant finish sixth overall with a score of 472.25 points. Sophomore Katie Kolozsvari was 10th overall with a score of 398.85 points, while rookie Kathryn Murphy was 11th with a mark of 364.80 points.
In the final event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay, sophomores Riley Hicks, Courtney Dunham, Caitlyn Richmond and Mukulu combined for a time of 3:51.02 – which was 10th overall. The Lyons also saw Bliss, Corr, rookie Gigi Picard and Berry post a time of 3:57.03 in the consolation final to place 19th.
MIT won this year's championship with 1,281 points, followed by Wheaton with 908 points. Coast Guard was third with 724 points, while Springfield (651) and Wellesley (608) rounded out the top five.
The Lyons dual meet season has come to a close, but both Nemivant and Kolozsvari will return to action next weekend when they travel to MIT to compete at the 2019 NCAA Northeast Diving Regionals. Action runs Friday through Saturday.
