Swimming & Diving Solid at Smith College Relays

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team was back in the pool on Saturday, competing at the non-team scoring Smith College Relays. The Lyons saw a number of strong performances, including junior diver Samantha Nemivant, who was victorious off both boards.

In the 1-meter diving event, Nemivant posted a score of 247.25 for the win. She was followed by sophomore teammate Katie Kolozsvari, who took second overall with a score of 213.50. Rookie Kathryn Murphy rounded out the Lyons efforts in fourth with a mark of 161.35.

The 200-medley relay, sophomore Caitlyn Richmond, senior Bri Groves, and sophomores Ashton Bliss and Tamara Mukulu earned the win in a time of 2:00.66. The 800-yard freestyle relay was next up as the foursome of rookie Gigi Picard, sophomore Courtney Dunham and Jacqueline Park, along with Groves won with a time of 8:48.11, while in the 3x100-yard butterfly relay, Bliss, junior Sarah Ratzlaff and sophomore Naomi Brown won in a time of 3:31.93.

Senior captain Delany Berry, junior Natalie Burkett and Richmond then won the 3x100-yard backstroke with a time of 3:37.67. In the 3x100-yard breaststroke, the Lyons placed second as Bliss, Park and Groves combined for a time of 3:55.38, while in the 200-free relay, rookie Laraiba Seibou, Brown, sophomore Ally Dunlap and Ratzlaff were third with a time of 1:57.82.

In 3-meter diving, MHC went 1-2 once again as Nemivant won with a score of 239.00 points, while Koloszvari was second with 210.75 points.

The 400-yard medley relay saw Brown, rookie Adrienne Corr, Groves and Bliss earn third with a time of 4:42.16, while in the 3x100-yard medley relay was won by Mukulu, Berry and Park with a time of 3:30.77. The Lyons then saw rookie Adriana Aparicio, Brown, Dunham and Picard finish third in the 200-yard fly relay with a time of 2:13.91.

In the 200-yard backstroke relay, Aparicio, rookie Emma Sullivan, junior Olivia Vejcik and Park were second with a time of 2:1553, while in the 200-yard breaststroke relay, the Lyons foursome of Corr, senior Kate Flaherty, Mukulu and Picard were the winners with a time of 2:31.46.

The 400-yard free relay rounded out the day's action as Mukulu, Groves, Bliss and Park combined for a time of 4:00.73 to earn the win.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next Saturday at 1pm when it hosts the University of New England at the MHC Natatorium.
