Swimming & Diving Sits 6th Following Day 1 at Hamilton Invite

CLINTON, N.Y. - Day one of action at the 2018 Hamilton College Invitational has concluded and the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team is currently sixth overall in the field of 10 teams. The Lyons posted 329 points during the opening session, just 31 points behind Oneonta State for fifth.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Lyons saw sophomore Jacqueline Park, senior Bri Groves, along with sophomores Naomi Brown and Tamara Mukulu take fifth with a time of 1:56.74. In the 1-meter diving event, Lyons junior Samantha Nemivant was second overall with a score of 239.30 points, while in the 200-yard individual medley, Groves earned 11th with a mark of 2:22.77.

Mukulu shined in the 50-yard freestyle, powering her way to third overall with a time of 25.71, while the 100-yard backstroke saw Park finish eighth with a time of 1:04.50.

Action for the day wrapped up in the 800-yard freestyle relay as sophomore Ashton Bliss - who placed 12th in the 500-yard free earlier in the meet - rookie Gigi Picard, Brown and Park combined to post seventh overall with a time of 8:51.97.

The host Continentals currently lead the meet with a combined 656 points. Cortland State is second with 438.5 points, followed by Trinity (383), Oswego State (373) and Oneonta State (360) rounding out the top five.

MHC is back in action on Saturday at 9am as day two of the invitational gets underway.
