Swimming & Diving Powers Past Nor'Easters

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Behind multiple victories from a number of Lyons, the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team defeated the University of New England by a 151-105 margin on Saturday afternoon. The Lyons improve to 1-1 in dual meet action on the season, while the Nor'Easters slip to 0-2.

MHC jumped out strong right out the gate as the foursome of sophomore Jacqueline Park, senior Bri Groves and sophomores Naomi Brown and Tamara Mukulu notched a time of 1:56.22 to open with the victory in the 200-yard medley relay.

The Lyons continued their first-place efforts in the 1000-yard freestyle as sophomore Ashton Bliss touched the wall first in a time of 11:54.29. Classmate Riley Hicks was close behind in third (12:39.81), followed by senior captain Delany Berry in fourth with a mark of 13:04.68.

Park went on to earn the win in the 200-yard free with a time of 2:09.59, while sophomore Caitlyn Richmond picked up the victory in the 50-yard backstroke - touching the wall with a time of 30.86.

Groves went on to win the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 32.69, followed closely by rookie Emma Sullivan who was runner-up with a mark of 36.73. Brown then earned victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.88.

The Lyons next victory came in the 50-yard free as Mukulu earned the win with a time of 26.52. She was closely followed by Richmond in second with a time of 27.46. Next up was 1-meter diving as junior Samantha Nemivant won with a score of 237.20 points.

Mukulu picked up another victory in the 100-yard free with a time of 59.27. Rookie Adrienne Corr took third overall in the event with a time of 1:00.89. Park earned another win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.45. Another victory came from Groves in the 100-yard breast as she touched the wall first in a time of 1:12.35.

Brown went on to win once again in the 500-yard free, posting a time of 5:45.91, followed by Bliss with a time of 5:47.22. Finally in the 3-meter dive, sophomore Katie Kolozsvari earned the win, posting a score of 222.75 points.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday when they host Westfield State at the MHC Natatorium. Action begins at 1pm.
