WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly awards and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Samantha Nemivant was recognized. The junior captain garnered Diver of the Week honors after an outstanding week, which saw her become the Seven Sisters Champion in both diving events.
A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Nemivant was outstanding last weekend, becoming the Seven Sisters Champion off both boards. She recorded 423.45 points for the 1-meter board victory. Additionally, it marked an NCAA 11-dive qualifying mark and was her first championship title. The next morning, she notched another NCAA Qualifying score of 461.25 points for the 3-meter victory.
It has been an outstanding effort through nine meets for the former Notre Dame Prep standout, who has posted 15 victories during that span. She has won off both boards in six of the team's nine meets thus far. She finished second off the one-meter board in action Hamilton College, posting a score of 239.30 and the other against Vassar & Trinity Colleges with a mark of 230.45 points.
Also highlighting Nemivant's efforts this season is a two-board win against Clark University and Wheaton College, where she captured the 1-meter with a mark of 247.80 points and earned the win on the 3-meter with a personal-best and NCAA qualifying mark of 273.50 points. Currently she has four NCAA Qualifying marks, including three off the 3-meter.
Last season, Nemivant was one of 29 female divers to compete in both the 1 and 3-meter diving events at the 2018 NCAA Division III National Swimming & Diving Championships, becoming the first Lyon since 2006's Lauren Griffin to compete at Nationals. She went on to earn 18th off the 1-meter and 20th in the 3-meter.
Nemivant had an outstanding effort at the 2018 NCAA Division III Northeast/North Regional Championships, finishing sixth on the 3-meter with a score of 427.90 points, following it up with a seventh-place mark on the 1-meter of 404.80 points. In addition to nine first-place finishes, she also placed no less than third during the regular season off either board over nine meets. For the season, she recorded seven NCAA Qualifying marks, including four off the 1-meter.
During her rookie season, Nemivant broke a number of records, including a score of 451.35 points in the 3-meter event in a third-place finish at the Hamilton Invitational. Her score eclipsed a long-standing program record, shattering NCAA Honorable Mention All-American Elena Giordano's record of 427.55 points.
Mount Holyoke returns to the pool on Saturday when it travels to Simmons University for a 12pm dual meet.
