Manaster Named NEWMAC Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly awards and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Amanda Manaster was recognized as the Defensive Athlete of the Week in soccer.

A senior goaltender from Beverly Hills, Calif., Manaster earned her honor after a solid effort in the season-opener against Simmons University. Over 90 minutes of action, she made nine saves, including five from close range to help the Lyons defeat the Sharks, 2-1.

Currently through the first weekend of action, the Beverly Hills High School graduate leads the NEWMAC in total saves (9) and is third in save percentage (.900). Manaster is also third in goals against (1) and eighth in goals against average (1.00).

Last season, Manaster appeared in all 18 games, including 17 as a starter. She logged 1579:06 minutes and had a 3.19 goals against average. Additionally, she posted a NEWMAC-best 175 saves, which was also a career-high. Manaster was also a NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honoree last season.

As a sophomore, Manaster played in four games, including one as a starter. She had a 1-0 record, notching 10 stops with a .909 save percentage and a .56 goals against average. During her rookie season, the multiple NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honoree appeared in three games, boasting a 2-1-0 record with a 1.50 goals against average and a .812 save percentage.

Mount Holyoke (1-0) returns to action on Thursday when it travels to #18 Amherst for a 5pm match against the Mammoths.
