SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Congratulations go out this week to Sarah Etzel, who was named the Lyon of the Week following an outstanding performance in Riding's near-perfect effort last week. The Lyons amassed 47 points to win their home show this past Saturday, just two shy of a perfect mark, as Etzel had a number of amazing efforts.

A junior out of Northampton, Mass., Etzel took the blue ribbons in both Novice Fences and Novice Flat. At the conclusion of the event, she won the ride-off to earn the Overall High Point Rider award. She then squared-off in a Quiz Bowl, winning that to claim Novice High Point Rider honors.

Last season, Etzel was outstanding for Mount Holyoke, finishing top-10 in all nine shows she competed. Highlighting the season were blue ribbon efforts in walk-trot-canter at both the Holiday and Winter 1 Tournament of Champions events. She also took fourth in team competition as MHC won the Zone 1 Championship to advance to the IHSA National Championships. During her rookie season, Etzel competed in seven shows, garnering three blue ribbons in walk-trot-canter throughout the season. She was also a member of the Lyons squad that went to Nationals that season, earning Honorable Mention in Collegiate Cup Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation.

Mount Holyoke continues its regular season slate on Saturday March 23 at Hadley Farm hosted by UMass Amherst, Amherst College, and Hampshire College.
