WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly award winners for the period ending March 17 and two Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were recognized. Junior Catherine Peabody and first year Annissa Aamoum were tabbed as this week's women's tennis Doubles Team of the Week after posting a 3-0 record together last week as the Lyons went 3-2 in Florida Spring Trip action.
The duo posted three wins during last week's five-match slate, beginning with a 6-4 triumph at two against the duo from Division II Lees-McRae College. Peabody and Aamoum countered in the next match, helping the Lyons to an 8-1 team win as they posted an 8-6 winning score at two against Northwestern (Minn.). The Lyons duo closed out the week on Friday in a 4-3 team victory against Division II University of Sioux Falls. That match saw the pair come together once more at two for a 6-4 win against the Cougars.
Additionally, both players posted 1-1 marks with other teammates to open the week's action, putting both athletes at 4-1 on the week in doubles. Overall, Aamoum, a native of Dulles, Va., had a 4-1 mark in singles action with two of her victories coming against Division II opponents. Peabody, who hails from San Francisco, Calif., recorded a 3-2 mark last week in singles play. One of her highlights coming in third singles against D2 Sioux Falls, where she won 6-1, 6-2.
On the season, Peabody is 5-4 in dual match singles play. She has gone 4-3 from three and is also 1-1 at two. For Aamoum, the rookie has posted a 4-3 singles record, going 2-2 from four, 2-0 from five and 0-1 at six. In doubles, Peabody has gone 7-4, including a 6-2 mark from two, while Aamoum is also 7-4. She owns a 3-1 record at one, a 3-2 mark at two and is 1-1 from three.
Mount Holyoke returns to the courts on Friday when it opens its NEWMAC schedule at 3:30pm at MIT.
