Three Lyons score multiple goals in lacrosse loss to Falcons

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Autumn Tibbetts and Jessica St. George scored four goals apiece and Nicole Orlowski added three goals and three assists as Fitchburg State rose to 3-1 by defeating the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team 17-8 Saturday afternoon on the MHC Turf.

Mount Holyoke sophomore Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) led all players in points with four goals and three assists, in addition to seven draw controls, while senior Hannah Bisson (South Hadley, Mass.) and sophomore Elle Mader (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored two goals apiece.

The host Lyons (0-5) gave up three goals to the Falcons (3-1) in the opening three minutes before getting on the scoreboard with a pair of goals by Hannah Bisson in the first quarter. Orlowski's third goal of the game, tallied with 5:42 left in the second quarter, gave Fitchburg State an 8-2 lead, but Emi Bisson scored back-to-back free-position goals in the 28th minute to close the gap to 8-4.

St. George netted all three goals in the third quarter, as the Lyons were held to three shots and one draw control in the period.

Fitchburg State made it a 5-0 run with goals by Abaigeal Doheny and Hannah Azzari early in the fourth quarter. Emi Bisson fueled a 3-1 run by the Lyons, scoring unassisted and finding Mader open for both of her scores in a span of less than three minutes, and prompting the Falcons to call timeout with a 14-7 lead with 8:26 left in regulation.

Fitchburg built more breathing room with back-to-back goals by Tibbetts and Breanna White for a 16-7 Fitchburg lead with 5:17 to go. Emi Bisson's fourth goal of the game and 15th of the season gave Mount Holyoke its eighth and final score.

First-year Syd Baker (Needham, Mass.) made 13 saves for Mount Holyoke; Caitlin Persson had nine saves for Fitchburg.

First-year Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.) totaled three caused turnovers and three ground balls for Mount Holyoke, while sophomore Jane Harmon (Ashburnham, Mass.) had two caused turnovers and four ground balls.

The Lyons will play host to UMass-Boston on Wednesday at 6pm.
