Lacrosse responds with strong second half at Nichols College

DUDLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team fell into a deficit too big to dig out of despite a strong second half, as the Lyons were outscored 13-4 in a non-conference game at Nichols College on Wednesday night.

The Bison (2-0) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one quarter and 12-1 at halftime, with a 23-2 difference in shots. In the second half, Mount Holyoke outscored Nichols 3-1 with a 9-8 difference in shots.

Sophomore Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) scored Mount Holyoke's only goal in the first half and finished with two goals and two assists.

Bisson set up a goal by sophomore Amelia Knaysi (Grand Junction, Colo.) with 5:53 to go in the third quarter, then fed sophomore Marielle Welch (Silver Spring, Md.) for her first score of the season with 7:48 to go in the fourth quarter. Bisson scored her second unassisted tally with 4:59 to go, closing the deficit to single digits at 13-4. Mount Holyoke held Nichols scoreless over the final 24 minutes of the game.

First-year goalkeeper Syd Baker (Needham, Mass.) made nine saves for the Lyons (0-2). Briar Slattery made two saves and Keri Tremblay added three saves for Nichols.

Sophomore Jane Harmon (Ashburnham, Mass.) and first-year Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.) had two ground balls apiece for Mount Holyoke, and senior Caroline Thompson (Harwich, Mass.) led the Lyons with three draw controls.

Mount Holyoke will host Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday at 1pm.
