WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team outscored the University of St. Joseph 3-0 over the final 20:05 of the teams' non-conference game on Wednesday night, but couldn't overcome the lead the host Blue Jays had built in the first half, as the Lyons fell 11-5 on a rainy USJ Lacrosse Field.

Sophomore midfielder Emi Bisson (Chester, Conn.) scored three goals and added an assist for the Lyons (0-4), while first-year Syd Baker (Needham, Mass.) made 13 saves.

USJ (1-0), which finished with a 10-7 record in 2023, opened its season with the win behind three goals and three assists from Anna LeGault, plus three goals and an assist by Ashley Rufo. Lauryn Wilks added two goals and Colleen Stringer made seven saves for the Blue Jays.

Seniors Hannah Bisson (South Hadley, Mass.) and Caroline Thompson (Harwich, Mass.) both scored goals for Mount Holyoke. Emi Bisson led the Lyons with seven draw controls and shared the team lead in caused turnovers (2) with Thompson and first-year Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.).

Emi Bisson fed Hannah Bisson for Mount Holyoke's first goal, tying the game at 1-1 in the early going. An unassisted tally by Emi Bisson with 6:13 to go in the first quarter made it 3-2. But St. Joseph's ended the quarter with three unanswered goals, then turned it into an 8-0 run that lasted well into the third quarter. The Blue Jays outshot Mount Holyoke 14-1 in the second quarter as they made it a 10-2 game at intermission.

USJ had only a slight 11-9 edge in shots attempted in the second half, and Mount Holyoke made better use of its attempts in closing the gap from 11-2 to 11-5. Yet Emi Bisson's unassisted goal with 9:45 left in the game ended the scoring for both sides and a win for the home team.

Mount Holyoke will host Fitchburg State on Saturday at 1pm.
