Basketball falls to Adrian College in Puerto Rico

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico -- The Mount Holyoke College basketball team played Adrian College in the Lyons' first game of the Puerto Rico Clasico on Thursday afternoon in the Coliseo Mario Morales, falling 74-43 to the Bulldogs despite a strong all-around performance from first-year guard Alex Twomey.

Twomey (Nutley, N.J.) scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and added five steals, all team-highs for the Lyons (1-11).

Makayla Clement led Adrian (4-7) with 16 points, adding nine rebounds. Olivia Green scored 12 points with eight rebounds and Sara Serbantez added 11 points off the bench.

Adrian held only a 19-17 edge in turnovers, but a 55-25 advantage in rebounding, as well as an .403 to .228 difference in field goal percentage.

Sophomore Cal McGonagle (Yarmouth, Maine) had eight points and four rebounds for Mount Holyoke. First-year Libby Harris (Foxborough, Mass.) added seven points, while junior Emily Mock (Bangor, Maine) made both of her free throws and her lone field goal attempt, a 3-pointer, to score five points off the bench.

Mount Holyoke will take on SUNY Geneseo Friday at 10am Eastern Time, also at Coliseo Mario Morales. The game will be livestreamed for free viewing on the Puerto Rico College Sports Tours Facebook page.
